Many people living in HK rent their house or apartment. During lease negotiations certain renovations and improvements may be agreed and will then be arranged by the Landlord and completed before the lease start date. Normal renovations will include repainting, polishing wood floors and fixing anything that is broken within the flat. If bathrooms and kitchens are in poor condition, some Landlords may be willing to replace them. If repairs are necessary during the duration of the lease, the Landlord should be informed and he or she will arrange for the various works to be completed.

Make sure any agreed renovations or repairs are carefully stipulated in the lease agreement before you sign it and also that the renovations are completed to your satisfaction before you take possession of the flat.

If you are planning to do arrange your own renovations the contractors listed below can do most works, everything from completely gutting a flat, to just small electrical or plumbing jobs. If you are having major works done, be sure to get several quotes before you make your choice.

Lockhart Road is the area where all the contractors and plumbers shop. If you take a walk along this street, you will get a very good idea of what's available in Hong Kong. You will see everything from doors to ceiling mouldings, bathroom fittings, tiles, parquet floors and paint.

Note: All monetary units are expressed in Hong Kong dollars unless otherwise noted.
