Hong Kong is one of the most interesting and exciting cities in the world, but gettling settled can be a little intimidating for a newcomer.

There are so many things to do and getting them accomplished can take time.

The CQ "Getting Settled' section details a wide variety of information from opening a bank account to getting your utililties connected or finding a new doctor.

Getting to know your way around Hong Kong is very important. Maps are readily available from all the major bookshops and it is very worthwhile to take a little time to study the maps and become familiar with the local geography. A little time reading maps will help you find your way around much more efficiently and enable you to feel at home much faster.

Hong Kong is a small place and nothing is too far away. It is easy and inexpensive to travel around by taxi.

Until you get to know your way around, you might find it helpful for the hotel concierge to write down your destination and hotel address in Chinese. If you do get lost, you will at least be able to get back to the hotel.

Buses and the MTR are a very convenient way to travel around Hong Kong. Get yourself an Octopus card from the MTR station and then you can travel around without having to worry about having exact change for the bus, MTR or ferry.

Take some time out from all the Getting Settled chores and join a course or two at the AWA or YWCA

Once you start to meet people and make friends, Hong Kong will feel much more like home!
